AI in Competitive Intelligence 2026 Report

A Warning for every PMM and Competitive
Intelligence team building AI workflows.

We need
to talk about something urgent.

Not quarterly-review urgent. Not “align on priorities” urgent.

Civilization-as-we-know-it urgent. Or at minimum, your competitive win rate.

Because zombie agents are real. They’re already inside your stack. They’re already inside your competitors’ stacks. And right now, across thousands of CI programs, they are confidently, systematically, and silently destroying the work you’ve spent years building credibility on.

They’re citing SEO garbage in your battlecards. Sourcing feature comparisons from broken links. Pulling context from sales calls that are three years old. Hallucinating competitor features that were deprecated before your last performance review. And because they sound authoritative — your reps trust them. Your leaders trust them. And even PMMs and CI leaders might trust them.

That’s the horror. Not that AI gets it wrong. That AI gets it wrong with complete confidence, and nobody catches it until it’s in front of a buyer.

The zombie agent doesn’t know it’s wrong. It has no idea. It has no brain — just the confidence of something that does. It walks into your workflows, your battlecards, your pitch decks, and your automated reports looking exactly like the real thing. Until a deal falls apart. Until a rep gets caught citing a pricing page that 404’d six months ago. Until someone in a boardroom asks where you got that number and the honest answer is your agent made it up.

This is the threat. This is why we can’t sleep.

At Klue we could have looked the other way. Kept our heads down. Let the zombie agents multiply. But that’s not who we are. We built the intelligence and context layer that gives your AI builds an actual brain — structured, sourced, continuously updated, human-verified competitive intelligence that your agents can pull from without going rogue.

Because an AI agent is only as good as what it’s built on.

Build on garbage — you get a zombie.
Build on Klue — you get something that wins.

Our mission is clear.
The zombie agents are here.
And we’re coming for them.

Definition

Zombie Agent

/ˈzɒm.bi ˈeɪ.dʒənt/

noun — competitive intelligence

An AI agent or workflow that operates with complete confidence on data it cannot verify, contextualize, or trust. It relies solely on a generic LLM to process this data. Sounds authoritative. Citing a broken link. Pulling from a call recorded three years ago. Hallucinating a competitor feature that never existed.

6 Ways to Tell if Your Agent is a Zombie

The failures that happen even when everything looks like it’s working.

oldguyzomb.png

1

No Source Weighting

Every source gets equal weight — including the ones that don’t exist.

2

Data Decay

It has no idea what’s out of date.

3

Context Stripping

It pulls the data. It loses what the data means.

4

Retrieval Lottery

Ask the same question twice. Get two different answers.

5

Contradiction

When sources disagree, it picks a side without telling you.

6

No Expert Context

The system can’t learn what your team knows.

chillzomb.png

When using ChatGPT or other open LLMs, I didn’t know where information came from or if we can trust it. We still needed a system tied into what we were already doing and how we position ourselves, which open LLMs will never have because you don’t completely control where they learn.

I examined competitive comparisons generated by ChatGPT. They were so generic it made me cringe. It was like asking an intern who knows nothing about our company and has no opinion on where the market is going to write our strategy. It lacked any real perspective on who we are and why we matter.

Those feature comparisons, that kind of slide needs thorough human review and the tact to position it in a way that’s the right amount of aggressive, but also true. That art — I have not found AI to be able to do alone yet.
